On Sunday, November 17, 2024, a premature infant rescued from the fire at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi passed away.
The fire, which occurred on Friday, November 15, claimed the lives of 10 newborns and injured 16 others in the children's ward.
College principal Dr. N.S. Sengar stated that the deceased infant was born prematurely, weighing only 1.5 kilograms, and not injured in the fire.
On Saturday, November 16, the NHRC issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government and State Police Chief regarding the incident.
Police authorities confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, affecting babies in incubators.
